My 91 year old grandmother is beyond special to me. She has been an integral part of my life since the day I was born. She and my grandfather had an accident on the way to the hospital because they were so excited about my birth... Not a serious one mind you, but they were being careless because they were in such a hurry to meet me for the first time. All my life she has been there for me and to see her health, mind and body failing her is hard for me to bear. I'm so happy that I was just able to see her and spend some quality time with her. She and I have a special bond. My grandfather died when I was a senior in high school. It had been many years since she had been by herself, so I went to live with her the summer before college. She drove me to college and got me settled in. We have shared many wonderful memories with each other and I cherish her dearly. On Saturday she suffered a stroke and is currently recuperating in the hospital... Hopefully, she will be able to go back to the nursing home today. Thankfully and due to the grace of God, my Mom happened to call her right when it started. My Mom's quick response is the reason that she is most likely not going to have any major side effects from this last stroke. But, I know I have to face facts... One day we will not be so lucky...
She is one of the most Godly women I know and such a wonderful example of how we should live our lives. She never complains or whines about her lot in life. If only I could have an ounce of her strength! I certainly am blessed for having her in my life and thank God daily for allowing me to know her! I am a better person because of it!!! I'm also glad that my boys know her and love her like I do! They are lucky little guys! And, she just adores them... She has her favorite people in her life and it's no secret who they are. My Mom and I get a kick over that. If no one else but my Aunt and myself were to visit her, her life would be complete... LOL! My Mom teases me that we are the "chosen ones". So, because I'm important to her she is very important to me. I hope to get back to see her soon at least once more this summer. Once school starts it becomes almost impossible to make a trip over even though it's only around 2 hours away...
I'm just thankful that she is recovering and that I have the chance to see her again!
