“Flavour – Love Letters” –speaker, Lisa Young on Feb. 12, 2008
At the prompting by my sweet hubby, I FINALLY made it to the Ladies gathering at our church entitled “Flavour”. Here is a description of why she feels it’s important that we reach our full potential as women:
On the church website Lisa wrote: “Recently, I have thought about the influence of women in our culture. We are a strong force that brings so much diversity and impact to the world. Each of us has been designed by God to add something fabulous to those we meet and greet in life. We possess a unique "flavour" if you will that influences the sights and sounds of our families, friendships, and communities. Our influence adds flavour that seeps farther than we can ever imagine.
The discussion was about the where we should look for love and what the perfect love letter looks like…
With Valentines looming ahead of us, the pressure to find the perfect card or gift along with our own expectations of what we should be receiving can be a recipe for disaster. We as humans are hard-wired to be loved. Both men and women have that one common need to be loved. So often we look to fill that need in all the wrong places. Let’s face it we are human and will disappoint one another when it comes to love. As a friend I will disappoint my friends, as a mother I will disappoint my sons, as a wife I will disappoint my husband, as a daughter I will disappoint my parents, as a Christian I will disappoint God. And, those we love will disappoint us as well. With that in mind, we should be looking to God to fulfill our need for love in our lives! Not that we shouldn’t seek love from those on earth, but our main source of fulfillment should come from above. You see God has written each and every one of us a personal love letter… That letter is the Bible. If we want to see God’s love for us, we just need to open it up and let it rest in our hearts, minds and souls.
God’s love is for ALL of us:
John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV)
God’s love is abundant:
Ephesians 3:17-19 – “…I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (NIV)
God’s love is dependable, unfailing and we can’t be separated from it:
Romans 8:35, 37 – “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (NIV)
God’s love is perfect, unconditional and like that of a parent:
1 John 3:1 – “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (NIV)
Is there is such a thing as the “perfect” valentine??? Here is what our Father above would like to say to us…
Dear Beloved (the one who is loved),
I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have drawn you with loving kindness. (Jeremiah 31:3) You can be honest with me, because I know you. I know when you sit and when you rise. I know every thought you have. I see when you come and when you go. I am familiar with all your ways. (Psalm 139:1-3) You can trust me because I have plans for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. When you call upon me and pray to me I will listen to you. (Jeremiah 29:11-12) Don’t question the way I made you because I made you just like I wanted you to be. You have a unique design, specific gifts, and an important purpose. (1 Corinthians 12:18-19) Who shall separate you from my love? Will trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? NO, in all these things you are more than conquerors through me because I love you. (Romans 8:35, 37)
